根冠细胞、子叶、胚乳、块根和块茎等贮藏组织中，含有贮藏淀粉大颗粒的质体。在多数情况下，这种质体的容积几乎被淀粉粒所占有，几乎没有膜结构（类囊体）和基质（stroma）。与其他质体一样是由原质体转化而来的，从已合成的有机化合物来看，具有形成淀粉的能力，认为这是已经分化的质体。
