Based on a historical overview of the evolution of the contemporary Chinese urban novel, this paper has analyzed three phrases of the contemporary Chinese urban novel, which are the disappearance in Seventeen Years Literature, the reappearance in New Times Literature and the superficial prosperity at the end of the 20th century.
