Through an analysis of the metaphors resulting from "snow" and "flower" mapped onto each other in Manyousyuu and Kokinwakasyuu, this paper re-examines the relationship between mitate, the traditional method of composing Waka, and metaphor.

Almost all odes to the moon in Kokinshu are either scenic depictions or love descriptions except one travelling poem named Viewing the Moon in China by Abeno Nakamaro, which associates moon-viewing with home-sickness.
