为方蟹科动物中华绒螯蟹的甲壳。动物形态详"蟹"条。
【化学成分】
大约3/4为碳酸钙，余1/4中约有一半为甲壳质，余一半主要为蛋白质。甲壳质系由N-乙酰氨基葡萄糖所成的多糖，不溶于稀的酸、碱，如与酸共煮则水解而生乙酸与D-葡萄糖胺。甲壳质为蟹、虾等壳的特殊成分，但亦含于某些昆虫的壳、菌丝、孢子中。
【性味】
《千金·食治》："味酸，寒，有毒。"
【功用主治】
破瘀消积。治瘀血积滞，胁痛、腹痛，乳痈，冻疮。 ①《纲目》："烧存性，蜜调，涂冻疮及蜂虿伤；酒服，治妇人儿枕痛及血崩腹痛，消积。" ②《本草崇原》："攻毒，散风，消积，行瘀。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煅存性研末。外用：烧灰调敷。
【选方】
①治蓄血发黄，胸胁结痛而不浮肿者：蟹壳煅存性，黑糖调，无灰酒下三钱，不过数服效。(《本经逢原》) ②治血崩甚而腹痛：毛蟹壳烧存性，米饮下。(《证治要诀》) ③治妇人乳痈硬肿：蟹壳灰一服即散。(《本经逢原》) ④治蜂虿伤：蟹壳烧存性，研末，蜜调敷。(《证治要诀》)
