The European Masters in Conference Interpreting(EMCI) is recommended by the European Union as the benchmark of postgraduate-type programme,the most appropriate way to train high-quality conference interpreters.

This thesis takes the question "the principle of syntactic linearity in conference interpreting" as its major theme, and conference interpreting mainly includes simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting.

Basically speaking, conference interpreting comprises of 2 forms, namely simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting.

Based on the authors experience and observation,this paper introduces the main kinds of conference interpretation and the following issues need to be considered: preparation for the conference interpretation,interpreters qualification,and interpreters courtesy and professional ethics.

Concerning a conference interpretation,the preparation is a key process.

Since conference interpretation its debut in international meetings, it has caught people s great interest and has been developed very fast.

by thus,focusing on the dissimilarities of interpreting studies between China and the West,the paper makes an intensified investigation into the factors behind those differences,ending up with some concrete suggestions for the future of interpreting studies in China.

This paper reviews the major approaches and methods of interpreting studies throughout its history, from which we can see that interpreting studies are developing towards interdisciplinarity and the research methodology is evolving from objective speculation based on experience to objective description and empirical analysis based on data.

And more importantly, interpreting studies has benefited from other more established disciplines such as psychology, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, text linguistics, neurophysiology and so on, which have been broadening and deepenin.
