The film and TV program scenario translation and subtitle translation have either generalor individual character,that share both common and different points in text function,translation targets and specific translation strategy,which are in turn an incomplete coincident relationship.

Guided by fundamental tenets of dialectics, this paper attempts to apply dialectical systemic thinking to the examination of the nature and properties of subtitling so as to arrive at a dialectical systemic understanding of subtitling.

Following the functional approach,the present paper intends to apply Basil Hatim and Ian Mason s model of context in the descriptive analysis of the subtitling data collected,with focus on its pragmatic dimension.
