    指平声和仄声。平声即中古的平声,仄声指中古的上去入3声。中国旧体诗赋和骈文用字,平声和仄声相互调节,使声调和谐,富有音乐感。南朝永明诗体以及唐以后的格律诗和词,每句的平仄都有明确规定。在音韵学中,语音的变化规律常常与声调有关,所以平仄也被看作是与音韵学有关的术语。如中古全浊声母到近现代一律变成同部位的清声母,平声送气,仄声不送气。使用术语平仄,就比逐个声调叙述方便多了。
