| 词典 dictionary 主要用来解释词语的意义、概念、用法的工具书。广义的词典包括语文词典及各种以词语为收录单位的工具书；狭义词典仅指语文词典。其整体结构一般由前言、凡例、正文、附录、索引等部分组成。正文以词条的形式解释词目，词条实现有序化编排。从不同的标准或特征出发，词典可分多种类型。汉语词典从内容上着眼区分为语文词典、学科(百科)词典、专名词典三类。中国古代包括词典在内的以解字释词为主要内容的专书统称为字书。《尔雅》、《方言》、《说文解字》是中国出现最早的有代表性的字书。《汉语大词典》是中国当代规模最大的词典。世界上现存最古老的词典是公元前7世纪亚述帝国时编的苏美尔-阿卡德语双语难词表。1612年意大利出版的《词集》是第一部欧洲民族语词典。牛津大学出版社出版的《牛津英语词典》12卷 ，又补编1卷（1884～1928）是近代西方最大的词典。
