性质:通常是对核酸中具有转运氨基酸作用的tRNA分子二级结构(模型)的一种形象的比喻。在tRNA一级结构上几十个核苷酸中都可以找出一些能配对的区域而形成局部的双链段形似发夹的直端,然而中间不能配对的碱基便鼓出而称为发夹的环状部件,故称发夹环。整个tRNA分子形似发夹,称为发夹结构(hairpin structure)。在酵母菌酪氨酸-tRNA的二级结构模型中,92个核苷酸的单链在形成二级结构是呈现发夹结构或三叶草形。同理,也常把tRNA二级结构比喻为三叶草形或柄叶形(stem loop)。双螺旋区构成了叶柄,突环区为三叶草的三片小叶,故又称柄叶结构或三叶草结构(cloverleaf pattern)。
