性质:由高纯二氧化硅和天然石英晶体制成的纤维。纯度99.95%,密度2.2g/cm3。拉伸强度7GPa;拉伸模量70GPa。具有耐热、耐腐蚀和柔软性。高温下强度保持率高、尺寸稳定、抗热震性、化学稳定性、透光性及电绝缘性好。增强用长丝直径4~10μm,作为石英棉的纤维直径视用途而异,约为0.7~10μm。制法有:(1)将石英棒或管用氢氧焰熔融拉丝,再用氢氧焰吹管喷吹,制成直径0.7~1μm的石英棉;(2)石英经火焰熔融后用高速气流形成短纤维及其毡片;(3)将石英丝或棒以恒定速度通过氢氧焰或煤气火焰,软化后高速拉成长丝。主要用作电绝缘材料、隔热材料和复合材料的增强体。用于制飞机机头雷达罩、火箭的尾喷管、空间航天器的烧蚀材料等。
