Syrian opposition lays preconditions for attending Geneva II

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The n opposition coalition says it won't attend the "Geneva Two" peace conference unless there’s a strict timetable for President Bashar al-Assad to leave power.

Speaking to foreign ministers in Cairo, Syrian National Coalition President Ahmad Jarba said they would also not attend the conference if is invited.

Arab foreign ministers are holding an emergency meeting at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo to discuss the latest efforts to bring peace to Syria. Ministers are discussing recent developments inside Syria, and Lakhdar Brahimi’s latest tour of the region.

DAMASCUS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The visiting UN-Arab League joint special envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, said here Tuesday that the Syrians are the ones who decide the shape of the transitional period in their country.

Brahimi made the remarks a day after an Arab newspaper misquoted him when speaking about the role of President Bashar al- Assad in the transitional period in Syria.  

CAIRO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Arab foreign ministers will meet on Nov. 3 to discuss the latest developments of the Syrian crisis, official news agency MENA reported on Monday.

The meeting, to be held in the (AL) headquarters in Cairo, will tackle the outcome of UN-AL joint special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi's visit to different countries in the region and preparations for the Geneva II Conference, MENA quoted a diplomatic source as saying.

DAMASCUS, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The UN-Arab League Joint special envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, arrived in Syria Monday, wrapping up a regional tour aimed at garnering support for the upcoming Geneva II international conference on Syria.

Brahimi was received at the Syrian borders by Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.
