BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- An overcrowded tourist ferry has sunk in eastern Thailand, killing six passengers, including two ns, and one Chinese citizen.
The ferry capsized on Sunday near the resort town of Pattaya, with about 200 passengers on board. The double-decker boat took off from Koh Lan island, but suffered an engine problem shortly after departure.
Passengers rushed to the upper deck in panic, causing the ferry to flip onto its side. Witnesses say there weren’t enough life vests and safety equipment on the ferry. Local police say the boat’s normal operating capacity should be around 130.
