BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- India's ruling Congress party says the power grid failure affecting extensive regions in the country is due to some states drawing more power than their entitled quota.
Manish Tiwari, Spokesman of India's ruling congress party, says, "Some states have taken in more power from the grid than they are entitled to. But whatever may have been the cause, we hope the situation will normalise soon, and people will be freed from the problems that are facing."
Frustrated with the massive power shortages, residents of Am-rit-sar city in the northern state of Punjab have held a candle light procession as a mark of protest against the current situation.
The candle light rally was organised by a local voluntary forum, Voice of Am-rit-sar. Its Vice President has said the lack of electricity is pushing society back into the Stone Age.
Power shortages and an aging road and rail network have weighed heavily on the country's efforts to push the growth rate up in its agricultural and industrial sectors.
