By way of going through all possible materials,the author did an all-round sociolinguistic study on the university names currently used in our country so as to sum up the structure and characteristics of the words used in the university names.

Analysis is made in this article of the disorder in the translation of names of regular higher education institutions in China,and on this basis,a solution is presented.
