性质:又称为侧链。聚合物链上的侧枝。分长支链和短支链。短支链含有二三个结构单元,它使高分子链的规整度降低,不易结晶,对固态性能有影响,但对聚合物溶液性质影响不大;长支链可以和聚合物主链同样长,它对聚合物溶液和熔体性能有影响,对结晶性影响不大。支链对聚合物的化学、物理、力学性能都有很大影响,分支点易受化学攻击、氧化和热降解。含支链的聚合物常比线型聚合物有较低的密度、强度和刚性。
