大型不定期学术研究刊物。专门发表有关中国历史、文学、哲学、语言文字等方面的研究考证文章。1962年创刊,由中国科学院哲学社会科学部所属《新建设》编辑部编辑,中华书局出版。每辑约三十至五十万字。至1966年停刊时,出版了四辑。1978年复刊后,改由中华书局编辑部编辑,仍由中华书局出版。至1988年底,已出版三十辑,共发表五百多位作者的九百多篇文章,约一千一百万字。以"崇尚实学,去绝浮言"为办刊方针,注重资料和考证,强调实证性、创造性,提倡实事求是的学风和质朴平实的文风,受到国内文史界的好评。近年来,又注意发表海外学者的论文,引起港台学术界和国外汉学界的关注,成为中外学术文化交流的一个重要园地。
