贝伦 巴西北部最大港口城市，帕拉州首府。又称帕拉。位于亚马孙河三角洲瓜雅拉湾与帕拉河汇流处 ，距海约130千米，为进入亚马孙盆地的门户 。靠近赤道，地势低洼，海拔仅24米，终年高温多雨，年平均气温26℃，年平均降水量2770毫米。市区面积736平方千米，人口约111万，其中白人占25％，其余为印第安人和混血种人，另有 5万欧洲侨民。大贝伦包括贝伦在内共两个市，面积1221平方千米。1616年由葡萄牙殖民者建立 ，原为殖民者的要塞 。19 世纪因亚马孙河被开辟为国际航道和从事野生橡胶贸易而繁荣 。 1915 年后趋于衰落。第二次世界大战后由于亚马孙河地区的开发等而重新兴旺 ，成为巴西南北物资交流的中心。 亚马孙河最大港口，码头总长 2297米，能停泊万吨巨轮，年吞吐量 400 多万吨。输出橡胶 、巴西坚果 、胡椒、黄麻、木材、皮革、药材等，输入主要为工业品。工业有制糖、面粉、纺织、化学、木材加工、造船、机械、冶金等。建有大学、博物馆、研究所等，是巴西北部的重要文化中心。 |
