This paper,starting from the idea of "variation" in social linguistics,discusses the concept of Sino-Vietnamese words and their variations,and holds that Sino-Vietnamese words refer to Chinese words that are read with Vietnamese pronunciation and have become an important component in Vietnamese vocabulary.

In analyzing and discussing Sino Vietnamese or Han Viet Dialect,linguists ordinarily put it into the loanwords' theory frame.

On the basis of statistical analysis of 268 Vietnamese words and a comparison with the corresponding Chinese ones in terms of their parts of speech, morphemic relationship, and semantic meanings, this paper finds that there exist some rules of inversion of the two-syllable Vietnamese words borrowed from Chinese if checked against the Chinese ones, and tries to explore the underlying causes.
