佛言：往昔罗阅只城，有须檀长者子，名须摩提。父命终后。有异母弟，名修耶舍。时须摩提设计不与修耶舍分其家财，乃语修耶舍曰：共诣耆阇崛山上，有所论说。弟曰：可尔。即执弟手上山，至高崖上，推置崖底，以石塠（都回切，落也）之，即便命终。时须摩提则我身是。修耶舍者，今提婆达兜是。我时贪财害彼，以是因缘，受诸苦报。今虽得佛，不免残对。故我于耆阇崛山经行，为提婆达兜举崖石以掷我头，山神以手接石，石边小片，迸堕击我脚指血出，受此报也。（梵语耆阇崛，华言鹫头。）
