以加强国际间应用心理学家的工作联系与学术交流，促进心理学各个应用领域的研究和发展为宗旨的心理学国际组织。于1920年在瑞士日内瓦成立，原名称为国际心理技术学会，1955年起改为现名。这个学会是拥有个人会员最多的国际性心理学学术团体,现已吸收近100个国家的6000名会员。它是国际心理科学联合会的下属国际心理学团体。这个学会下设有7个委员会:工作、财务、学术、会员、出版、职业和心理测验,分别负责有关方面的工作或开展各种学术活动。还设有7个专业委员会，即：教育、教学和学校心理学专业；临床、社区心理学专业；应用老年心理学专业；心理学和国家发展专业；环境心理学专业；组织心理学专业及心理评定专业。近年来,每4年召开一次学术大会。会刊为《国际应用心理学评论》半年刊，用英、法两种语言出版。中国心理学家徐联仓于1984年被选为这个学会执行委员会委员。第21届大会于1986年在耶路撒冷(以色列)召开。第22届大会于1990年在京都（日本）举行。
