直接金融的对称。资金盈余部门与资金短缺部门之间通过金融中介机构间接实现资金融通的金融行为。金融机构发出的证券为间接证券。如银行用发行金融债券集中的资金发放贷款或购入企业债券，就是一种有银行介入的间接金融活动。其中，银行发行的金融债券就是间接融资债券。
方式 ①资金盈余部门将多余资金存入银行等金融机构，然后再由这些金融机构向资金需求部门发放贷款或买入资金需求部门发行的直接证券（如企业债券、股票等）。②资金盈余部门用多余资金购买银行等金融机构发行的间接证券（如金融债券等），金融机构再用集中的资金向资金需求部门购买直接证券或发放贷款。所以，间接金融是通过银行等金融中介机构实现的资金融通活动。
优点 ①灵活方便

贷双方的中介,可以提供数量不同的资金和不同的融通方式,以及多样化的金融工具来满足供需双方融资选择要求。②安全性高。在直接金融中，资金融通的风险主要由债权人独自承担，而在间接金融中，由于金融中介机构的资产与负债是多样化的，某一项融资活动的风险便可由多样化的资产和负债结构分散承担。③证券流动性强。由于银行等金融机构的信誉高,所发行的间接证券,大都具有“准货币”的性质，易被人们接受。即使在金融市场欠发达的国家或地区，银行的间接证券一般也容易变现或转手。④作为间接金融活动主体的金融中介机构，一般都有相当大的规模，其资力也十分雄厚。因此，它们可以雇佣各种专业人员对融资活动进行分析，也有能力利用现代化的工具从事金融活动，还有可能在地区、国家、甚至世界范围内调动资金。据此，间接金融提高了金融的规模经济。局限 由于在资金供给者和资金需求者之间加入了银行等金融机构作为中介，资金供需双方的直接联系被割断，在一定程度上会减少投资者对企业生产的关注和筹资者对使用资金的压力和约束力。同时，由于中介机构提供服务要收取一定的费用，增加了筹资的成本。
