| 北洋军阀 以袁世凯为首的中国封建军阀集团。1895年清廷命袁在天津小站编练“新建陆军”。这支军队采用新的兵制 ，使用近代武器，归北洋大臣节制。1901年袁出任北洋大臣，所辖军队称北洋军。1916年袁死后北洋军阀分化为三个派系，即皖系军阀、直系军阀和奉系军阀，彼此争权夺利，不断发生政争和混战。为了争夺北京中央政权，1920年7月发生直皖战争，皖系失败下台，直系上台。1922～1924年先后发生了两次直奉战争，直系失败后，奉系控制中央政权。不断的军阀混战，消耗了巨大的人力物力，给人民造成深重的灾难，北洋军阀自身的实力也受到削弱。1926年7月 ，在国共两党合作倡导下，国民革命军进行了北伐战争，消灭了直系军阀吴佩孚、孙传芳的军队，打击了奉系势力。1928年国民党各军事实力派联合再次北伐，奉系军阀张作霖因战败退回东北，在皇姑屯被日本关东军炸死（见皇姑屯事件），至此，北洋军阀的统治结束。北洋军的一些余部被并入国民党军队。 |
