叶用甜菜(leaf beet)

藜科甜菜属甜菜栽培种的一个变种,学名Beta vulgaris L.var.cicla L.,为二年生草本饲用作物。又名牛皮菜、根荙菜、莙荙菜。

直根粗壮,圆锥形。短缩茎上着生大量叶片和侧芽。叶片簇生,长达40cm,光滑无毛,茎高约1m,穗状花序,果实聚合成球状,称种球。内有种子1-4粒,种球千粒重为14.6g。

喜温和气候,适宜生长温度为15-25℃,抗寒性强。幼苗能在-3--5℃下存活,还能忍受短期-10℃低温。不耐热,超过30℃则生长不良。对土壤要求不严。以排灌良好而肥沃的土壤为好,能耐盐碱。

播种期北方多春播,南方多秋播。可直播也可育苗移栽。直播的每公顷播种量22-30kg。行距30-40cm,株距20-25cm。田间管理主要是施肥、灌溉和防治病虫害。施肥以氮肥为主,可促使叶片生长迅速,长出的叶片肥厚柔嫩。当植株已有11-12片时,即可剥叶利用。

叶用甜菜柔嫩多汁,适口性好,多用来喂猪。干叶含干物质84.39%,其中粗蛋白质20.21%,粗脂肪3.8%,粗纤维7.21%,无氮浸出物44.96%,灰分8.21%。
