自胚胎第5周,胚胎体腔背部,肠系膜两侧的体腔上皮增生,肥厚,隆起,形成尿生殖嵴,外侧为中肾,内侧为生殖嵴,是性腺发生的始基。无论男女在生殖嵴外侧,都有中肾管和副中肾管。当生殖腺分化时,这两对管道发生不同演变,在女性,中肾管退化成遗迹,副中肾管发育成女性内生殖器官。其经过为:当胚胎发育的第6周,中肾管头端外侧体腔上皮向间质内凹陷,形成纵沟,向胚胎尾侧发展,不久沟的边缘互相联合形成管道,称为副中肾管,左右各一。管的头段与腹腔相通,形成输卵管部。副中肾管中段,向内向下斜行,演化为子宫底部和体部,副中肾管两侧合并形成子宫颈及阴道上段,胎儿12周末时子宫壁增厚,形成阴道穹隆,胎儿16周时,子宫肌层形成。24周末开始有子宫腔上皮,腺芽,至足月子宫内膜腺体已完善。在胎儿发育过程中受胎盘激素影响,子宫迅速发育,出生时宫体与宫颈之长度比为1∶2。副中肾管尾段形成阴道上段,最尾端与尿生殖窦相接,于胎儿12周时形成副中肾结节,两者相通,形成阴道下段,尿生殖窦上皮增生,形成环状薄膜是阴道外口,称为处女膜。
