【来源】
为猕猴桃科植物水东哥的根。
【植物形态】
水东哥 灌木或小乔木,高1~5米。幼枝密被锈色鳞片状粗伏毛,老时脱落。叶纸质,阔椭圆形、长圆形或倒卵状长圆形,长10~28厘米,宽4~11厘米,顶端急尖或短渐尖,基部阔楔形或钝,边缘有细刺状小锯齿,侧脉海边12~20条,幼叶上面疏被鳞片状粗伏毛,叶脉上有鳞片状粗伏毛,下面更密,老时减少或无毛。聚伞花序小,具总花梗,腋生或在老枝条叶痕的腋内长出,有花数朵;花紫红色或粉红色;萼片卵形;花瓣基部合生,上部向外反折;花丝短;子房卵形,花柱上部具3~5)分枝,柱头头状。浆果近球形,有白色乳汁;种子多数,有洼孔。花期3~7月。 生于山谷、溪边或林下阴湿处。分布广东、广西等地。 本植物的叶(水枇杷叶)亦供药用,另详专条。

秋、冬采收,洗净,切片,晒干。
【性味】
《广西中草药》:"微苦,凉。"
【功用主治】
①《广西中草药》:"清热解毒,止咳,止痛。治风热咳嗽,风火牙痛。" ②《广西药植名录》:"治小儿麻疹,风湿冷痛。"
【用法与用量】
内服:煎汤,3~5钱。
