【性状】
本品略呈斜方形或矩形，长3～4mm，宽2～3mm，厚约2mm 。表面黄绿色 或黄棕色，平滑，两侧各具一深斜沟，相交处有点状种脐。质坚硬，不易破碎。种皮 薄，胚乳呈半透明状，具黏性；子叶2,淡黄色，胚根弯曲，肥大而长。气香，味微苦。
【鉴别】
（1）本品横切面：表皮栅状细胞1 列，外壁及侧壁上部较厚，有细密纵 沟纹，下部胞腔较大，光辉带位于细胞外侧1/3 处，外被角质层。支持细胞1 列，略呈 哑铃状，上端稍窄，下端较宽，垂周壁显条状纹理。内胚乳细胞主为黏液细胞，壁甚厚。 子叶细胞含糊粉粒及脂肪油滴。 （2） 取本品粉末5g，加石油醚（60～90℃）30ml，加热回流1小时，滤过，滤液弃 去，药渣挥干，再加乙醇30ml，加热回流1小时，滤过，滤液蒸干，残渣加甲醇2ml使溶解， 作为供试品溶液。另取胡芦巴碱对照品，加甲醇制成每1ml含1mg的溶液，作为对照品溶液。 照薄层色谱法（附录Ⅵ B）试验，吸取上述两种溶液各6μl，分别点于同一硅胶G薄层板 上，以无水乙醇-丙酮-盐酸（10：6：1）为展开剂，展开，取出，晾干，喷以稀碘化铋钾 试液-三氯化铁试液（2：1）混合溶液。供试品色谱中，在与对照品色谱相应的位置上，显 相同颜色的斑点。
【炮制】
胡芦巴 除去杂质，洗净，干燥。 盐胡芦巴 取净胡芦巴，照盐水炙法（附录Ⅱ D）炒至鼓起，有香气。用时捣碎。
【性味与归经】
苦，温。归肾经。
【功能与主治】
温肾，祛寒，止痛。用于肾脏虚冷，小腹冷痛，小肠疝气，寒湿 脚气。
【用法与用量】
4.5～9g 。
【贮藏】
置干燥处。
