旅鸽 Ectopiste migratorius;passenger pigeon 鸽形目鸠鸽科鸠鸽亚科的一种。又称漂泊鸠,为近代绝灭鸟类中最为著名的代表。旅鸽体长35~41厘米,重约250~340克;形似斑鸠,翅尖v,尾羽扇形,较长,可占体长的1/2。背上部蓝灰色,腹部至尾为灰棕色;胸部暗红,有大白斑点;颈羽青铜色,有紫、绿色闪光。喙黑色,虹膜红色,腿深红色。典型群居生活 ,每群可达1亿只以上。主要食用浆果、坚果、种子和无脊椎动物。每产1卵,雌雄共同孵卵;孵化期约13天。雏鸟第1周食双亲分泌出的鸽乳。原分布于北美洲的东北部,秋季向美国佛罗里达、路易斯安那州和墨西哥的东南方迁徙,栖于森林中。直至1850年还可见到上百万只的鸟群。由于土地开垦,森林破坏,人和家畜的大量捕杀食用其肉,甚至用作肥料,到19世纪末,已减少到很难见到几只鸟的小群。当人类采取保护措施时已太迟,1900年最后一只野生旅鸽被杀死。1914年,最后一只人工饲养下的旅鸽——玛莎老死于辛辛那提动物园。至此,旅鸽在几十年内,由几十亿只到完全绝灭。 |
