BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The China Earthquake Networks Center says an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale jolted Taiwan’s Hualien, at 8:02 p.m. Beijing Time. There’ve been no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Two aftershocks have also been reported.

The earthquake brought some railways to a standstill, slowing a number of high-speed trains. Reports say troops are standing by for possible rescue missions. The epicenter, with a depth of 20 kilometers, was at 23.5 degrees north latitude and 121.4 degrees east longitude.

The quake was felt across Taiwan, and as far away as the cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou in the opposite side of the Straits, Fujian province.
