BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Thousands of Islamic activists are protesting on the streets of Dhaka to demand that the government enact an anti-blasphemy law in Bangladesh.
The activists blocked roads and clashed with police, leaving at least one person dead and 45 injured. The newly formed Hefatjat-e-Islam group gathered in a commercial district to state their demands, saying some Internet users have recently used blogs to spread lies about Islam.
But the government has rejected the demands, saying Bangladesh, despite being overwhelmingly Muslim, is governed by secular liberal laws.
