BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Venezuela’s President-elect Nicolas Maduro has accused the US of inciting the violence that occurred in the wake of Sunday’s elections.
Maduro says the U.S. Embassy has been "financing and leading all the violent acts." He has also accused the opposition of planning a coup against him. Seven government supporters were killed on Monday, after protesters flooded parts of the capital Caracas, blocking streets, burning tires and fighting with security forces.
Officials also said 61 people were injured, including one woman whom protesters tried to burn alive. Authorities have arrested 135 people.
