IBEIJING, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Italy’s Democratic Party candidate Pierluigi Bersani has said that he’s open to forming an alliance with the country’s caretaker Prime Minister Mario Monti after elections left the country with a hung parliament.
Speaking at a party convention on Wednesday, Pierluigi Bersani said his party was ready to begin a dialogue with other political parties and Monti’s Civic Choice in particular. But Monti said he would rather see fresh elections than let the Italian government make a u-turn on current financial policy relating to Europe.
Bersani would also have to consider an alliance with comedian Beppe Grillo’s 5 Star Movement. Grillo says his forces will not vote to support any new government formed by either Bersani or the conservatives led by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, but would back legislation by conscience, one piece at a time.
