By introducing cognitive linguistics theory of metaphor and metonymy,and through analysis of Chinese aesthetic consciousness together with a broader definition of culture,this paper probes into the socio-psychological phenomenon embodied by modern Chinese figurative words and phrases referring to mankind.

In our country the study of Chinese figurative words has been made for many years, but still many problems remain, such as their proper name, quality, classification and so on.

Metaphorical phrases can be presented via such forms as proverbs,sayings,colloquialism,set phrases,allusions,etc.

There are many body metaphorical nouns in English and Chinese,and some of them have developed into locatives in the process of grammaticalization.

The present paper approaches the usage, metaphoric meaning and cultural phenomenon of the numeral phrase metaphors in Chinese in the areas of wisdom, moral conduct, mental activity and society in an attempt to demonstrate the richness and beauty of the Chinese language and culture.
