中国美术学院图书馆是中国美术院校中最好的专业图书馆之一，前身是“国立艺术院”，由卓越教育家蔡元培先生创建于1928年。中国美院图书馆早年称图书课，最初的科主任为刘开渠先生。
图书馆由南山总馆、滨江分馆、象山分馆组成，总建筑面积约17000平方米。设有各类阅览学习场所，总阅览座位达1320余个。
图书馆藏书以中外文美术专业类图书为重点，兼及文史哲类图书，并购置了多种中外数字资源，总量近40万册。其中外文原版期刊170余种、中文报刊520余种，中外文电子期刊近5000种。除此之外，还藏有相当数量的中外名作精品复制品和4000余种古籍善本书。
本馆现已在图书采访、编目、典藏、流通、公共检索以及期刊工作实现了计算机管理。图书馆web网站与校园网、国际互联网畅通无阻，读者可在校园网的任何一台电脑上检索两校区所有馆藏文献资源信息，共享数字化、网络化文献资源库。
