The mountainous conservation area of the middle and upper reaches of the Jinsha River is an important eco-shield of China s underdeveloped regions and the Yangtze-River economic belt,where the evolution of man-land relationship is always the fundamental factor that influences the sustainable economical development in the mountainous area.

In view of achieving the balance between economic benefits from forest area development and impacts on ecological environment,this paper introduces the approach for developing the software for analyzing the economic and ecological benefits of forest area development and puts forward the methods of using GIS technique to set up relevant indicators.
