《十六国春秋别本》十六卷，题北魏崔鸿撰。崔鸿字彦鸾，东清河（今山东北部）人，卒于季明帝孝昌（五二五～五二七）年间。据《隋书·经籍志》、《十六国春秋》原书凡一百卷，又有“纂录”十卷。一百卷本已佚（今存《汉魏丛书》本乃明人伪托）。这个《别本》仅录各国君主事迹。这部“别本”，《四库总目》对它取存疑态度，但清汤球《十六国春秋辑补》则以为尚可信。今以《太平御览》等书校之，可见全书基本上与《御览·偏霸部》所引《十六国春秋》相同，当即取自《御览》诸书，虽或出后人抄摘，但无伪托窜乱成分，未可轻弃。此本据文渊阁《四库》本，校以《晋书》、《华阳国志》、《太平御览》及汤球《十六国春秋辑补》，除个别错字加以订正外，有些文字欠通顺处，亦据《御览》、《晋书》略加校改.
别本十六国春秋：旧本亦题魏崔鸿撰，载何镗《汉魏丛书》中。其出在屠乔孙本之前，而亦莫详其所自。十六国各为一录，惟列僣伪之主五十八人。其诸臣皆不为立传，全为载记之体，其非一百二卷之旧，已不待言。证以《晋书·载记》，大致互相出入。而不以晋宋纪年，与《史通》所说迥异。岂好事者摭类书之语，以《晋书·载记》排比之，成此伪本耶？然考《崇文总目》有《十六国春秋略》二卷，不著撰人名氏。司马光《通鉴考异》所引诸书，亦有《十六国春秋抄》之名。则或属後人节录鸿书，亦未可定也。屠氏所刻百卷之本，既为依托，此本亦疑以传疑，未能遽废，姑并存之，以备参考焉。---出《四库总目提要》
