1.古代刑罚之一。用荆条或大竹板拷打犯人。杖作为刑种始自东汉。南朝梁武帝定鞭杖之制，杖以荆条制成，分大杖﹑法杖﹑小杖三等。北齐北周，将杖刑列为五刑之一。其后相沿直至清末。参见"五刑"。
