佛本行集经云：菩萨既生兜率，其诸天众，即唤菩萨名为护明，展转称唤，其声上彻净居，乃至色界天顶，是名名胜也。（护明，释迦佛也。从迦叶佛时，护持禁戒，梵行清净，命终生天，不失本心，不忘宿行，故曰护明。）
