河北曲种。流行于河北省中部地区。源于乞丐讨饭时编唱的顺口溜，因用两块带铃铛的牛胯骨击节，当地又叫"耍胯骨的"。后来又有人改用竹板和节子板击节，给婚娶人家念喜歌。清道光、咸丰年间，艺人兰万祥用这种形式说唱小故事和长篇演义，在集市、庙会和书场演唱，称为"落子"。五四运动前后，落子盛行于任丘一带。20世纪20年代末期，艺人王来恩（舍命王）吸收老调梆子唱腔，丰富了落子的曲调，以说唱长篇大书驰名，至此形成了任丘竹板书，并逐渐由冀中、冀东传唱到辽宁等地。以后，王来恩的弟子刘春堂之子刘贺亮继续对任丘竹板书进行改革，借鉴了戏曲的表演艺术，吸收了西河大鼓和民间小调的唱腔，形成说唱、表演三者兼备的说唱艺术。70年代以后，刘贺亮在音乐工作者的协助下，增添了扬琴、四胡伴奏，使任丘竹板书的唱腔更为丰富，具有旋律变化自由，曲调朴实优美，表演传神，善于表现多种人物性格的特点。传统书目有《武松传》、《薛刚反唐》等，还有《平原枪声》、《儿女风尘记》等新编书目。
