指Ge、Si和部分Ⅲ-Ⅴ族化合物半导体，价带顶位于K空间原点，而导带底并不在K空间的原点。因此，间接带隙半导体中电子不仅吸收光子还与晶格交换能量，发生非直接跃迁。伴随发射或吸收适当的声子，电子的波矢K可以改变。GaP是间接带隙半导体，其发光也是间接跃迁产生的。但如果将GaP和GaAs混合制成GaAs1-xPx晶体，则可调节x(0＜x＜1)值改变混合晶体的能带结构，CaAs1-xPx可能成为直接带隙半导体。
