This thesis investigates the acquisition of turning complex clauses by the foreign students from the angle of grammar, semantics and pragmatics.

Starting with a definition of the category of generalized transitional relative clauses,this paper proceeds to analyze and summarize various types of erroneous generalized transitional relative clauses by retrieving the transitional clauses in "the Corpus of Interlanguage for Foreign Students" of Jinan University.
