中国古代说唱伎艺的研究著作。孙楷第著。原名《论中国短篇白话小说》。1953年出版。1955年修订后再版，收入作者关于唐代俗讲、宋代说话及明代白话小说的论文 5篇。其中《中国短篇白话小说的发展与艺术上的特点》对由唐迄明白话小说的演变及其艺术特色作了系统的论述与分析。《宋朝说话人的家数问题》论述了宋代说话的门类。《说话考》、《词话考》论述了宋代说话、元明词话的称谓来历、沿革以及因承关系。《唐代俗讲轨范与其本之体裁》，探讨了关于唐代俗讲的唱经、吟词、吟唱与说解之人、押座文与开题、表白等方面的问题。对研究中国古代说唱艺术的发展沿革有参考价值。郑振铎在此书第一版《论中国短篇白话小说》的序言中说："许多见解是很精辟的，许多材料是第一手的，足以供研究者作为依据的。"
