【来源】
为菊科植物向日葵的花蕾，植物形态详"向日葵子"条。
【采集】
秋季采收。
【化学成分】
花含槲皮黄甙、三萜皂甙、向日葵皂甙A、B、C等，其甙元是齐墩果酸和刺囊酸。花粉含甾醇，主为β-谷甾醇。
【药理作用】
花的水提取物灌流兔耳，有血管扩张作用；对猫皮下注射有短暂的降压作用；对兔静脉注射也引起呼吸兴奋、血压下降，还能明显增强小肠收缩，可用于肠无力。酊剂据云有退热作用。
【功用主治】
《民间常用草药汇编》："祛风，明目。治头昏，面肿，又可催生。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，2～8钱(鲜者1～2两)。
【宜忌】
孕妇忌服。
【选方】
治牙痛：向日葵花八钱。晒干，加入旱烟内吸。(淮阴《民间验方选编》)
