【来源】
为菊科植物向日葵的叶片，植物形态详"向日葵子"条。
【化学成分】
叶含新绿原酸、异绿原酸、绿原酸、3-o-阿魏酰奎宁酸、4-o-咖啡酰奎宁酸、咖啡酸、东莨菪甙、向日葵精。尚含多量有机酸(9～12%干重)，其中二羧酸和三羧酸约占1／3，中有柠檬酸(45.2%)、苹果酸(26.6%)、延胡索酸(21.2%)等。秋叶中含叶黄素的棕榈酸和亚麻酸酯。
【药理作用】
对金黄色葡萄球菌有抑菌作用，对大肠杆菌无效；还可作为抗疟药。酒精浸剂0.2%浓度在体外能抑制草履虫，作用虽不太显著，但小量与奎宁尚有协同作用。
【功用主治】
《中国药植图鉴》："叶与花作苦味健胃剂。"

治高血压：向日葵叶一两(鲜的二两)，土牛膝一两(鲜的加倍)。水煎内服。(江西《草药手册》)
