【来源】
为山茶科植物油茶Camellia oleifera Abel.的成熟种子用压榨法得到的脂肪油。
【植物形态】
灌木或小乔木。枝略被毛，树皮黄褐色，芽有疏松的鳞片，稍被毛。叶互生，革质，椭圆形或椭圆状矩圆形，长4～10cm，宽2～4cm，先端渐尖，基部宽楔形，边缘有小锯齿，上面有光泽，嫩时疏生茸毛，侧脉不明显；叶柄长约6mm，有毛。花白色，单生或并生于枝顶，无梗；花直径约4cm；萼片圆形，外被丝毛；花瓣5～7，倒卵形，长2.5～4.5cm，先端深2裂，外面稀被毛；雄蕊多数；子房密被丝状绒毛，花柱顶端3浅裂，基部有毛。蒴果近球形，直径约2.2cm，2～3裂，果瓣厚木质。种子1～2粒。花期9～11月。 生于山坡灌木丛中。产于四川、云南、贵州、安徽、江苏、浙江、江西、福建、湖北、湖南。
【采制】
秋季采果，晒干，打出种子，经加工得油。
【性状】
为淡黄色的澄清液体。
【化学成分】
脂肪油，主为油酸、硬脂酸等的甘油酯。
【性味】
性凉，味甘。
【功能主治】
清热化湿，杀虫解毒。用于痧气腹痛、急性蛔虫阻塞性肠梗阻、疥癣、烫火伤。又为注射用茶油原料及软膏基质。
【附注】
茶子饼含油茶皂甙、鞣质、生物碱；能收湿杀虫，有杀灭血吸血虫卵的作用。
