| 乌拉圭人 Uruguayans 南美乌拉圭居民的总称。通用西班牙语，与巴西接壤地区的居民也使用葡萄牙语。多信天主教，少数人信犹太教和基督教新教。14世纪以前，乌拉圭的最早居民是印第安人， 均以游猎和采集为生。乌拉圭曾经历西班牙与葡萄牙近百年的争夺。目前，居民中多为白种人，主要是欧洲国家移民的后裔，聚居在南部各省。余为印欧混血种人（包括高乔人的后裔）、黑人和黑白混血种人，分布在北部以及同阿根廷和巴西交界的地区。经济以农牧业为主，饲养牛、羊等，种植小麦、大麦、燕麦、玉米、水稻、亚麻、向日葵以及马铃薯、甜菜、高粱等农作物，粮食基本自给。过去工业主要是食品加工及皮革、纺织等轻工业，近几年来兴办了电力、化工、冶金、汽车制造等工业。大土地占有制居统治地位。
