七律《闲适》作于洛阳，时诗人任太子宾客分司东都。所谓分司东都，就是以太子宾客的名义，派往洛阳工作，是一个高级闲官，品级高（正三品），禄俸厚。这两句是说，无论是风光和暖时外出游赏，还是雨雪严寒时邀朋宴饮，供给都是不成问题的。然而，正因为无事可做，等于坐冷板凳，“官不卑”，实“闲适”，“只是蹉跎得校迟。”，意在言外的苦闷是可想而知的。
