By analysing Jane Eyre s life experience in Thornfield,the paper aims at digging out some hidden implications from this name to provide the reader with more enlightenment and speculation and help the reader get a deeper understanding of the novel.

Based on the theories of postmodernism, especially on Ihab Hassan’s theory of postmodernist literature, this thesis is intended to reveal the postmodern feature indeterminacy in the novel from four aspects of character, plot, symbolic codes and themes.
