中国现代高等院校艺术教育系科。1927年创立于南京，由原江苏省立艺术专修科与中央大学教育学院合并建成。初称艺术教育专修科，又改称艺术科，复改称艺术系，学制由2年渐变为3年、4年。早期,专业分为西画、中国画、工艺、音乐4组,分别由徐悲鸿、吕凤子、吴溉亭、程懋主教。1927～1930年由李毅士任主任,之后,徐悲鸿曾任主任。徐悲鸿多方罗致人材,聘请绘画教师,于该系贡献殊多，对该系教学思想影响亦较显著。1937年七·七事变后，迁往四川成都继续办学。徐悲鸿赴南洋期间，由吕斯百代理系主任。抗日战争胜利后迁返南京，专业分油画、中国画、音乐 3组。1948年增设艺术研究所。1949年后，中央大学改为南京大学，该系随之成为南京大学艺术系。1952年改为南京师范学院美术、音乐2系。
