| 九州岛 Kyūshu 日本第三大岛。位于日本西南端，东北隔关门海峡与本州相对，东隔丰予海峡和丰后水道与四国相望，东南临太平洋，西北隔朝鲜海峡与韩国为邻，西隔黄海、东海与中国遥对。旧为筑紫、筑后、丰前、丰后、肥前、肥后、日向、萨摩、大隅九国，遂称九州。州在日语中为区域之意。主岛面积3.65万平方千米 ，连同所属小岛面积约4.34万平方千米，人口约1435万。北部为筑紫山地，山地低矮平缓，海拔500米左右，多盆地、平原。南部地势高峻，九州山脉纵贯，主峰祖母山海拔1758米。温暖多雨，年平均气温13～16℃，年降水量 1500 ～ 2500 毫米 。河流多急流 ，水力资源较丰富。森林较多，森林面积约占全岛面积的1／5。全岛火山分布较广，有著名的阿苏山、雾岛山火山群。海岸线曲折，多海湾、岛屿、半岛。南部以农业为主，畜牧业、蔬菜、水果和渔业发达。煤炭资源较丰富，产量居全国前列。制造业以钢铁、化学、造船工业等为主，其核心地区为北九州工业地带。70年代以来，电子工业迅速发展，有“硅岛”之称。大城市有北九州、福冈、熊平、长崎和鹿儿岛等。 |
