After examining several Chinese characters in Classic of Poetry,"páo" is identified as the present plant named calabash,which is further tested to have been planted in Zhou dynasty.
通过《诗经》中“壶”、“瓠”、“匏”、“瓞”、“庐”的考析,确定了“匏”为今天的“葫芦”。

| 葫芦藓 Funaria hygrometrica 藓纲葫芦藓科的一种。分布于世界各地。外形矮小，高仅0.5～1厘米，稀分枝，黄绿色，无光泽，多丛集成小片状。叶常簇生茎的上部，阔舌形，全缘；中肋单一，近叶尖部消失；叶细胞疏松六角形，近基部为长方形，薄壁。多雌雄同株。雄苞顶生，花苞状。蒴柄纤细，长可达3厘米，橙黄色或红棕色。孢蒴梨形，垂倾而背腹不对称，台部明显；具环带；蒴齿两层，内齿层发育良好，有齿毛与齿条之分化。蒴盖圆盘状，略凸起。蒴帽兜形，罩覆孢蒴上部。多喜氮而见于庭园、温室及火烧后的开旷林地。由于其取材较易，叶细胞大形，蒴齿构造齐全，长期作为植物学教学的基本材料。 |
